The Langaland Collective are thrilled to welcome a new member to our family; the wonderful Hannah Denholm has climbed aboard the Langa-Ship as we sail to our new site, and takes on the role of Artistic Director. If you were with us last year you may recognise Hannah from the brilliant animation workshop from Animate The Earth...
We caught up with Hannah to find out about her plans for Langaland 2019 and learn a bit more about her:
Hi! What have you been up to recently?
Most recently I have been living in the North of England, exploring the nature, collaborating with artists and musicians in the alternative music event scene in Leeds. I've been loving making props and décor, DJ booths and costumes for these events and festivals across the UK. Previously following my art journey on my travels creating for festivals in NZ and AUS, journaling and illustrating my time and experiences there. In my spare time I like best to be outside soaking up the beauty spots, scavenging for art projects, working on leather and willow craft.
What's your favourite artform?
On a more personal scale I enjoy Painting and Illustrating, focal points are capturing light and movement, inspired by magic of the wild places, feminine form, and connection to nature; along with creating landscapes and scenic murals. I had the opportunity to learn the art of Lantern making in Queensland Australia in 2017 and fell in love with it. I was lucky enough to meet some great crafts women and men, and absorbed some new skills and have gone on to display work around the UK.
Why have you have chosen this as your creative outlet and why is it so important to you?
Self Expression can be a challenge to put into words, but it can be turned energetically into art to help us visualize an emotion, all art feels different to everyone.
I reckon we can celebrate love for diversity and togetherness with art; light and ambient music merging to create scenic spaces ,where we can connect, feel safe and let loose!
Have you been to Langaland before?
I've known a few of the original Langaland organisers for a while and it has been a pleasure to watch them grow!
I have created décor for the festival in previous couple of years, last year holding a workshop/creative space for the little and big ones with good friend and Animator Holly James @Animatetheearth.
Do you have an attachment to Langaland and its surroundings?
Devon is a special place close to my heart, you cant beat its rolling green hills, and great bushy mazes they call country roads. The fairy tale towns and woodland trails, rivers and tors across Dartmoor inspire me!
Whitmoore farm is a wee slice of heaven in Devon and I'm excited to work in such a beautiful surroundings so close to my home. What will you bring to Langaland? I'll be bringing local artists and far away friends together to bring you, through different mediums of art, the love the Langaland fam have for all our colorful friends, to celebrate our diversity and gorgeous natural surroundings and wildlife! Each of our creative crew will be bringing their flavor to sweeten up the vibe through out the weekend.
What do you have planned for Langaland 2019?
You'll have to come along and find out!
See you in the fields!
